Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that laws regulating abortion should not set “arbitrary pregnancy limits.”

Abrams said: “We know that for women, these abortion rights struggles are about their ability to take control of their lives, to participate in the economy, to decide whether or not to have forced pregnancies in the future. Yes, I would urge everyone One voter considers the economy will ebb and flow, but the laws will change the future of every woman you know, and when they’re solid, it will change the future of every woman you know.”

“I want to be specific about your position,” host Chuck Todd said. “I want to put what you’ve said recently about your position on abortion. “My intention is to pass legislation that would give women the right to have an abortion. This right continues until the doctor determines that the fetus is viable outside the body, unless it is to protect the woman’s life or health. How do you legislate this? “

“You solve this problem by going back to the structural framework as we know it,” Abrams said. Roe v WadeYou can do this by not setting arbitrary pregnancy limits as we know these reflect medical decisions. “

She continued: “What we say – we respect women’s responsibilities and doctors’ obligations. Politicians are not scientists and we shouldn’t set these moving targets into law that don’t reflect the realities women face when they sit in doctors’ offices .”

Abrams added: “I know some people will feel better if we pick a date out of the air, but we know that’s not scientifically supported.”
