In 2020 and 2021, Atlanta Braves right wing Ian Anderson became one of the few players in history to win Rookie of the Year tickets in two separate seasons. Now he’s a minor league player. The Warriors selected Anderson to Triple-A Gwinnett in a series of roster changes on Sunday, the team announced.
Anderson, 24, dropped four runs in 4 2/3 innings in Friday’s win over the New York Mets, even as he struggled all season. Anderson has a 5.11 ERA, an MLB-leading 53 walks in 21 starts and 105 2/3 innings in 2022. Anderson pitched to a 3.25 ERA in 160 2/3 innings in 2020-21. The triple-A allocation will be a reset opportunity.
The Warriors, meanwhile, will stick to adding Jack Aldorizzi as their No. 5 starter at the trade deadline, behind Max Fried, Spencer Stryder, Charlie Morton and Kyle Kay. Earl Wright. Strider, a rookie, has pitched 87 innings this year, just shy of his career high (94 in 2021). The Warriors will need to monitor his workload and likely need Anderson to soak up innings at some point.
So far this weekend, the Warriors have lost three of their four games to the Mets and 5 1/2 in the NL East. No divisional games ended on Aug. 7, although Atlanta’s chances of winning a fifth straight division title this weekend took a major hit.
