Carson Wentz is heading into his first season with the Washington Commanders, and all eyes are on the quarterback to see if he can prove himself after a mediocre season. Wentz’s accuracy didn’t come close to perfection during training camp, but head coach Ron Rivera said it wasn’t about him.

When asked about these throws, Rivera admitted to noticing the inaccuracies, but was far from going into panic mode.

“It’s a lot better than the credit you give him, just because of the way things work out in practice. We see a lot of nuance and we’ll see what we’re going to review. Yeah, some inaccuracy. But that’s nothing we overly worried [about]’ Rivera said via ESPN.

As Rivera learns more about Wentz, he says growth is needed, but the team is currently focused on improving day-to-day rather than worrying too much about setbacks.

“Again, we saw what was happening. We saw how things were going. We saw timing and an understanding and feeling of what was going on with our concept,” Rivera said. “So, as we continue to grow and work hard, we just feel like we’re going to continue to grow and get better as an offensive unit.”

Rivera has supported Wentz since arriving in Washington, Call him “very smart” and compare him to quarterback Philip Rivers.

Wentz played for the Indianapolis Colts last season after spending most of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles.
