Twins Javier and Joaquin Bello won England’s first beach volleyball medal in a historic victory at the Commonwealth Games.
Bellos won 21-11 21-12 in the bronze medal match against Rwanda’s Olivier Ntagengwa and Venuste Gatsinzi.
Birmingham’s Smithfield exploded when they won their second match point.
“It sounds amazing, and we’re proud of the work we’ve done. It’s a family, a team, a volleyball community and a country — we’re very happy,” Javier said.
The Bello brothers missed out on guaranteed medals after Saturday’s semifinal loss to Canada.
But they were outstanding against their Rwandan rivals on Sunday.
“We’ve had a lot of ups and downs throughout the week. We hope we’ve made our family and our country proud,” Joaquin said.
“It’s the achievement of my life.”
