Former President Donald Trump has strongly indicated that he is preparing to run for president and has hinted that an announcement will be made soon.
Trump has repeatedly said he has made a decision on the 2024 race, and Fox News figures asked him at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Texas, when Republicans can expect an official announcement.

“It’s certainly not a long period, the time is coming,” the former president said. “I think people will be very happy, our country has never been in a situation like this, we’ve lost everything.”
Trump said the United States was facing a domestic and foreign policy crisis. In particular, he believes the country’s “prestige” has been damaged by President Biden’s botched troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“Our country has never been in a worse time,” Trump said. “They gave up $85 billion worth of equipment, dead soldiers, you still have Americans there who could be hostages and end up being hostages, never as it is now.
“We will announce in the near future,” Trump added.
The remarks came shortly after CPAC released its polling showing Trump as the overwhelming favorite among the conservative grassroots for the 2024 Republican nomination. Trump won nearly 70 percent of the vote at the meeting, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis coming in second with 23.7 percent.
