A rocket warning was heard in the Jerusalem area on Sunday morning, the first time Gaza terrorists fired missiles into the Israeli capital since Israeli military operations began two days ago.
The sirens were heard during the live broadcast of the Israeli version of reality TV show Big Brother, which was filmed in Neve Ilan, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Jerusalem. The live broadcast was cut off when contestants on the show were seen taking cover in the house’s safe room. Before that incident, the contestants were unaware of the contingencies.
The last rocket fired towards Jerusalem was in May 2021, marking the start of an 11-day conflict between Israel and the Hamas terror group in Gaza.
Tensions also intensified in the capital on Sunday as Jewish pilgrims ascended the flashpoint of Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, home to two biblical temples, for the Tisha B’av fast. Tisha B’av, observed by Jews from Saturday night to Sunday night, marks the anniversaries of the destruction of the two temples in 586 BC and 70 AD.
Terrorists from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror group continued to fire dozens of rockets at Israeli communities around the Gaza border.

Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired more than 580 rockets into Israel in 36 hours. About 120 of them caught fire and fell into the Gaza Strip, the IDF said.
The Iron Dome missile defense system successfully intercepted 97 percent of the 220 rockets fired into civilian centers. Rocket sirens went off in several Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv, over the weekend, forcing Israelis to seek cover in bomb shelters.
The clashes began after the arrest of West Bank PIJ leader Bassam al-Sa’adi, which the terror group is trying to retaliate against by targeting Israeli targets near the Gaza border.

As part of Operation Dawn launched Friday, the Israeli Air Force carried out multiple attacks on the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group in Gaza in response to what Israeli leaders say is a direct and specific threat to Israeli communities from the PIJ.
Israeli Prime Minister Yar Rapid said the goal of the latest operation, known as Operation Dawn, was to “eliminate specific threats”.
“Israel will continue to act without hesitation to ensure the peace of its inhabitants,” he told a cabinet meeting Saturday night.

Earlier on Saturday, Israeli media said IDF killed Khalid Mansour, the head of the PIJ’s military unit in the southern strip.
A day earlier, Israel had assassinated senior PIJ commander Tayseer al-Jabari, the mastermind behind hundreds of rocket attacks during the 11-day war last May.
