Jan Struijs, president of the Dutch police union, has claimed that his country, the Netherlands, is a drug state, with drug-trafficking criminals running a parallel economy.

Struys says the Netherlands is often praised by left-wing liberals Drug Decriminalization Policynow a “Drug State 2.0”, where criminal traffickers have become so influential they compete with the official Dutch economy.

“I call the Netherlands Drug State 2.0 because drugs have injected so much money into the legal economy that it took over. It destroyed democracy and it destroyed the economy,” Struys Tell Swedish broadcaster SVT.

According to SVT, the huge illegal drug black economy affects all parts of the official Dutch economy, including housing prices and some companies that operate legitimate businesses but have been taken over by drug-trafficking criminals.

In addition to affecting the economy, drug cartels and the Mafia have threatened and killed journalists and lawyers in recent years.

Veteran Dutch crime journalist Peter de Vries was shot in the streets of Amsterdam last July and died a few days later. His death came after de Vries acted as an adviser to a witness in a major criminal gang trial known as the Marengo trial, whose leader Ridouan Taghi was extradited to the United States in 2019. Netherlands.

Another man, lawyer Derk Wiersum, was also shot dead in 2019. He was the lawyer for one of the star witnesses in the Marengo trial.

A total of 17 people in the Moroccan or “Moroccan” mafia have been charged with six murders and several attempted murders.

Reporter Jens Olde Kalter interviewed SVT about the killing, saying: “Is it worth dying for? Do I want my children to grow up without a father? Do I want my children to grow up in a drug country? These are all things I’m thinking about.”

Violence linked to drug gangs is not a new phenomenon in the Netherlands, where nearly 20 people have been murdered from 2021 to 2016 in the so-called war in Morocco.

In March 2016, one gang even left the head of a rival to another gang on the streets of Amsterdam as part of the violence.
