Former President Donald Trump on Friday pledged to run for Sen. Joe Manchin in West Virginia as a result of Democrats’ $739 billion tax hike and climate change deal.
Trump said Manchin and Sen. Kirsten Sinema, D-Ariz., both up for re-election in 2024, would pay a heavy political price for agreeing to support the deal after previously rejecting it.

“What happened with Manchin and Sinema, what exactly happened, and where did this new philosophy come from,” Trump said during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Texas. “I think if this deal goes through, they’re both going to lose the next election, and I’m sure West Virginia and Arizona won’t support what they’ve done to them.”
The former president’s remarks come as the Senate is debating a massive spending measure. Written by Democrats, the bill would raise taxes by $739 billion over the next decade.
Much of the money, nearly $440 billion, will go to climate change subsidies, which it hopes will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2030.

Manchin and Sinema’s support for the bill is key given widespread Republican opposition, as Democrats plan to use a partisan process known as budget reconciliation to push the bill through the 50-50 Senate.
“Maybe this speech can stop them because when Manchin heard me say he was going to lose West Virginia,” Trump said. “I will go down [there] And make every effort to oppose him. ”
Democrats are using the Manchin-Schumer Act as a cure for inflation.They believe it will lower electricity bills through new climate change subsidies and limit the amount of money older Americans pay out of pocket to save lives prescription.
“This is an American bill,” Manchin said after agreeing to the deal. “We have an opportunity to reduce the cost of medicines for older adults, reduce [Obamacare] Health care premiums, improve our energy security, invest in energy technology — all while reducing our national debt. “
Trump, who won West Virginia by nearly 40 percentage points in 2020, disagreed, calling the bill’s tax provisions “plagiarism.” The former president also questioned Manchin’s credibility, claiming the West Virginia Democrat had previously failed in impeachment.

“I got on really well with him and he kept calling me,” Trump said. “When the impeachment hoax started [Manchin] Said, “I will never vote against you, you are a great president.”
