Father of Sandy Hook victim testifies at Alex Jones trial
Infowars founder and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is now facing two other defamation trials brought by the parents of other victims after he was ordered to pay a total of $49 million in damages.
The parents of another Sandy Hook Elementary school mass shooting victim are on trial in Texas. His lawyers said Friday that the case has been adjourned due to the bankruptcy of his company.
The second trial is in Waterbury, Connecticut, for the families of the other eight victims.
A jury in Austin, Texas, decided Thursday that he must pay more than $4 million in damages to the parents of six-year-old Jesse Lewis Jr., who was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre. On Friday, they ordered Jones to pay an additional $45.2 million in punitive damages.
Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis have filed a defamation lawsuit against Jones, claiming that the school shooting that Jones claimed killed 20 children and six adults was a hoax.
It was discovered during the trial that his own lawyers had mistakenly shared the full contents of Jones’ phone with the opposition legal team, which was asked to make it available to the Jan. 6 committee.
Why Jones was sued by Sandy Hook victims’ families
In 2012, hours after 26 people were shot at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Alex Jones began making false claims that the massacre was not real.
More than a decade later, the far-right conspiracy theorist’s inflammatory rhetoric continues to haunt him, as the families of the shooting victims — 20 of whom are young children — demand he be held accountable in court.
After many attempts by the Infowars host to delay and destroy justice, his time has finally come.
