Americans continue to be “pessimistic about the state of the economy” with little hope of improvement.Negative public opinion is driving President Joe Biden’s low approval ratings in most categories, ABC News report Sunday.

A new ABC News/Ipsos poll programme 69% of Americans think the economy is getting worse, 18% think it’s staying the same, and only 12% think it’s improving. Almost half of Democrats and a majority of Republicans and independents agree that the economy is in decline, with 64% saying they are “very enthusiastic” about the midterm vote.

Americans view Biden’s handling of the economy overwhelmingly negatively, with only 37 percent saying they are satisfied. 62% of Americans disapprove of the way Biden handles the economy and 69% disapprove of the way he handles inflation.

“On both issues, a majority of independents disapprove of the job Biden is doing (66 percent and 73 percent, respectively),” the poll report said.

“Except the response to the coronavirus, the majority of Americans continue to disapprove of his work on every test question,” the report noted. “Ten of the 11 questions tested in the survey have not been available since June” Significant changes”, except for gasoline prices. Thirty-four percent of those surveyed now approve of Biden’s handling of natural gas prices, up from 27 percent in June.

Overall, the poll found that Americans trust Republicans more to deal with issues like crime, inflation and the economy.

“This model applies to those who say they are very enthusiastic about the midterm vote this November,” the poll report said.

The poll was conducted Aug. 5-6 with a random sample of 665 adults across the country. Partisan division was 29-25-40 (Democratic-Republican-Independent) with a margin of sampling error of ±4.2 percentage points.
