This San Francisco 49ers Been trying to trade the veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolobut to no avail.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the 49ers have yet to reach a deal.
“The 49ers have made it very clear that they plan to trade him,” Rapoport said. “Obviously not going to be with the team next season. However, my understanding is that Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t have a clear trade partner right now. Look at the NFL, think about who can take that salary, think about Who needs a starting quarterback. There aren’t any clear options. Maybe a quarterback either doesn’t develop as everyone thinks, or maybe has an injury and may develop, but so far it’s a bit of a wait-and-see game.
“So, how long are the 49ers willing to wait? From what I understand, they’re willing to wait until cut-off day. In fact, it doesn’t make much sense for the 49ers to do, say, move on from Jimmy Garoppolo now, because if another four points What if Wei is injured, or if there is some kind of need? It sounds like they’re going to hold him for as long as they can, just to see if any trade market develops before eventually – and probably – continues from him go ahead.”
According to Rapoport, Garoppolo may be ready to play “in a few weeks” after offseason shoulder surgery.
San Francisco announced in the offseason that Trey Lance will be the starting quarterback for next season. The 49ers selected Lance, who plays in North Dakota, with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
